Beat the Winter Blues at Scene75 in Romeoville, Illinois
Moms, I get it. Winter can be daunting, dark, and somewhat depressing. Finding activities to keep the kids occupied, happy, and entertained indoors when the wind chill lands in the negative digits is no easy feat. Worry no more – here’s the scoop on the perfect Kid-Friendly (and kids-of-all-ages-friendly) location to beat those Winter Blues.
Scene75, located in five locations at Chicagoland, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton, is your answer. We visited the Chicagoland venue at 460 S Weber Rd, Romeoville, Illinois. It is about a 40 minute drive from the heart of downtown Chicago, but let me tell you, it’s worth every mile to get there. Scene75 bills itself as an “Entertainment Center,” but it offers so much more than that: laughter, healthy competition, and just plain ‘ol kid-friendly fun as part of this unique a-la-carte entertainment experience.
Load funds on a gaming card and spend hours roaming the center to check out all or some of the fourteen attractions, or to simply focus on the enjoyment of the exciting Arcade games. With over 100 to choose from, they are spaced throughout every nook and cranny of the facility. Aliens Armageddon skill shooting, classic car racing, air hockey, and even Wizard of Oz ticket-bearing coin push games are all available to provide some laughs with the kids. Thousands of tickets can be won at the Big Bass Wheel or the 15 foot-tall Monster Drop Extreme! There is, of course, a ticket redemption center where giant stuffies or smaller trinkets can be earned through your competitive play. Scene75 has hundreds of different prizes at the redemption counter, ranging from a few tickets to awesome major prizes worth over 100,000 tickets! Since Scene75 is a “green” facility, your tickets will be loaded onto your gaming card for redemption when you’re ready, this trip or the next.
Indoor Go-Karting is a “can’t miss” attraction while visiting Scene75. The “no-emission” karts make for a clean and quiet experience. All drivers must be 10 years or older and at least 54” tall to drive – however, kid-friendly double-seater go-karts are available for those too young to drive and are above 36” tall, so be sure to wear your closed-toe shoes to kart those younger kiddies around! The kid-friendly staff will brief each rider on expectations prior to each experience. This experience is $12 per rider.
Laser Tag is yet another fun way to spend time at the site. Simply stated, Scene75 Chicagoland takes the best elements of laser tag from across the world and combines them into one arena! There is no other experience like it! Blacklights, PowerUps, and Bonus Points allow you to work in tandem with your teammates to complete the mission. The massive space allows room for safe roaming, running, leaping, and jumping! This well-organized and Kid-Friendly zone is the host to tons of laughs and memories. This attraction is $10 per person.
The Tsunami Roller Coaster is billed as a “wild ride packed with speed!” This indoor coaster accommodates riders with a height of 48″ to ride alone and must be at least 42″ to ride with an adult. It offers speed, but no loopty-loops. The dual-seat coaster twists and turns to offer a thrilling experience, for $9 a rider.
Scene75’s Blacklight Indoor Mini Golf course is a luminescent kid-friendly experience for your family. The detailed and visually enticing backdrop of custom scenery assigns a themed design to each hole of the nine holes, where kids of all ages don a free pair of 3D glasses to help visitors immerse themselves in the beauty and awe of the experience. There is no height requirement for mini-golf and this experience runs around $9 a person.
The Drop Tower is an indoor riding attraction featuring a quick drop from a 35-foot tower! The design allows 12 riders to be seated and harnessed in a circle surrounding a tower which slowly creeps to the top. After a moment of suspense, the group of riders will drop at a steady pace for over a minute. This ride is smooth and comfortable and kid-friendly, for the shortest of riders at 42”. The Drop Tower is $9 per rider.
Sunset Mini-Golf offers healthy competition for guests not interested in the blacklight mini-golf experience. This mini-vacay-vibed nine hole golf course features an eleven foot waterfall, surrounded by tropical backdrops of flowers, palm trees and foliage. This kid-friendly attraction is one for all families to enjoy as it welcomes all from youngest to oldest! This mini-golf experience costs $9 per golfer.
Mom to Mom here: there is no getting out of Scene75 without spending at least thirty minutes in their amazing Inflatable Play Zone! The bounce area is well-lit, clean, and is the hub of laughter. Ages 12 and under are welcome to bounce in the variety of inflatables, attended to by the kid-friendly staff. Parents are welcome to observe outside of the bouncies! Slides, castles, and obstacle courses are featured…just don’t forget to wear socks! Each thirty minute increment will deduct $12 from your gaming card for the kids.
The Homerun Zone allows your favorite batter an opportunity to swing for the fences in the state-of-the-art batting cages. Batters control pitch timing and speed. Each batter gets fifteen pitches/balls to hit for $5. This area is a particular “hit” amongst kids for birthday parties and other celebratory events. Scene75 has a variety of party packages available, but this attraction scores a “Grand Slam” among attendees. Check out their website for pricing and availability. Don’t strike out and miss this opportunity for some kid-friendly fun.
The Vault Laser Maze at Scene75 Chicagoland allows visitors an opportunity to compete in a physical challenge by embracing their inner ninjas! The object is to get in and out of a “vault” without tripping one of the neon-colored laser beam alarms. This attraction is best for kids aged 8 and up. Expect to crawl, bend, jump and be mindful of your arms and legs! This attraction is only a few minutes worth and runs each competitor $4.
Two newer attractions which opened last August are the Spin Zone Bumper cars at $7 for a spin- quite literally! – and the 7-D motion theater called the Dark Ride. It is a motion simulator and fits up to eight people in linked-motion seats with high quality enclosed sound/audio. Brilliant!
The Backyard Eatery offers a flavorful and enticing dining experience for the entire family. Since Scene75 is kid-friendly at its core, the dining options range from American Fare to the tried-and-true favorites like spaghetti and meatballs. There is a full-service bar available for the parents and a comfortable atmosphere to relax and refuel after depleting your gaming cards!
While a full service on site restaurant is available, 75 Flavors is a must-visit kid-friendly scoop-shop, featuring sweets like fudge, cookies, brownies and candies!
Moms, Scene75 is worth its weight in gold! Beating the Winter Blues at a thrilling indoor entertainment center takes the wind chill out of those long weekends where kids become stir crazy while indoors. Scene75’s “stir crazy” is what this kid-friendly venue is all about! Stay tuned for the next Kid-Friendly Venues blog, where the other inviting attractions at Scene75 are featured!
