With summer just around the corner, it is a great time to enjoy a baseball game with the kids. Chicagoland has many wonderful ballparks for families to explore.
You can choose from minor league parks like the Chicago Dogs and Schaumburg Boomers. Or, for a classic baseball experience, visit Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. No matter your budget, you can create great family memories at the ballpark.
Cheer for the Chicago Dogs
Rosemont is a gateway to Chicago with plenty of dining, shopping, and entertainment. One of its most kid-friendly attractions is the Chicago Dogs baseball team.
The Chicago Dogs play at Impact Field, located at 9850 Balmoral Avenue. The stadium seats about 6,300 fans and offers family-friendly prices and activities.
Kids can run the bases after games. In addition, the Hot Dog mascots keep children entertained between innings. Many games also end with a fun fireworks show.
Families can enjoy competitive baseball without spending a fortune. That makes the Chicago Dogs a great option for a summer outing.

Visit the Schaumburg Boomers
The Schaumburg Boomers offer a similar experience to the Chicago Dogs. However, their location is more convenient for families in the western and northwestern suburbs.
The Boomers play at Wintrust Field, located at 1999 S. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg. The stadium seats about 6,000 fans.
Kids can become part of the action throughout the game. They can enjoy the mascot, Coop, and have fun between innings. Families can also grab affordable treats such as Dippin’ Dots.
The Boomers have also helped launch the careers of players who later reached Major League Baseball. That adds another fun part to the baseball experience.

Make Memories at Wrigley Field
My family’s favorite place in the entire world is Wrigley Field. Located at 1060 W. Addison Street, this historic ballpark is a must-visit for baseball fans.
Wrigley Field has a special charm. The Chicago Cubs have updated the ballpark while keeping its classic look and feel. It is also one of the oldest ballparks in Major League Baseball.
Tickets can cost more than other baseball outings. However, the Cubs sometimes offer discounted family ticket packages. For example, my children and I once attended a 6:40 p.m. game with a good seat, soda, and hot dog included for $21 each.
These deals can sell out quickly. Therefore, joining the Cubs’ email list can help you learn about special offers before they are gone.
Getting to Wrigley Field
Getting to Wrigley Field can sometimes be challenging. However, families have several transportation options.
The Chicago “L” makes it easy to reach the ballpark. Pace also offers express shuttle service from some suburban areas for home games. In addition, Metra riders can use shuttle service from the Irving Park area.
Parking is also available, but public transportation can make getting in and out of the neighborhood much easier.
Have Fun at Gallagher Way
Gallagher Way is one of our favorite parts of a visit to Wrigley Field. If you have tickets to the game, bring a ball and glove so the kids can play catch before the first pitch.
The area often features live music before and after games. Families can also purchase snacks and drinks while enjoying the outdoor space.
On warm days, kids can cool off in the splash pad. It is a great way to burn off some energy before heading into the ballpark.
Make It Special for the Kids
There are plenty of ways to make a Cubs game special for young fans. Visit the information booth to get a “First Timer” certificate if it is your child’s first visit.
You can also arrive early to watch batting practice. In addition, food is sometimes discounted before the game, so arriving early can help families save money.
Clark the Cub, the team’s mascot, is another favorite with young fans. He goes out of his way to make children feel welcome.
On Sundays, kids may receive a wristband that allows them to run the bases after the game. Depending on the schedule, children may also have a chance to visit the Kids Corral during the visiting team’s batting practice.
Consider the Cubs Kids Club
If you plan to visit Wrigley Field more than once during the summer, consider joining the Chicago Cubs Kids Club.
Membership can include special perks and Cubs merchandise. Kids may also get access to members-only events.
Our family has enjoyed some wonderful memories through these events. From a parade on the warning track before a game to a “Catch at Wrigley” event on a beautiful Sunday morning, these experiences have made our visits even more special.
