Vacation planning can be loads of fun—in fact, we here at Momkidfriendly.com, a blog about parenting, agree that planning is at least half the fun! You might be wondering where to take your family this year, and if you are then you might also be wondering which spots have the best places to visit with kids. With that in mind, I want to talk about road trips, national parks, and planning the perfect National Park trip with kids.

The United States is full of amazing, breathtaking, and thrilling national parks. From forests to canyons, rivers to mountains, and geysers to monuments, American national parks have something for everyone, making any National Park trip with kids a memorable one. And with a total of 63 official national parks, chances are that your own state (or at least a neighboring state) has a fantastic spot you can visit without too much hassle.

    Here’s a travel tip!

Download the free kidfriendlyvenues.com app to see what other busy moms recommend in your area. It is a helpful time-management tool that makes planning easier. You can quickly find kid-friendly restaurants and discover family-friendly places nearby.

    The Northeast

If you want to travel as far north as Maine, consider visiting Acadia National Park. Known as the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, it offers over 100 miles of hiking trails, stunning coastal views, and scenic campsites.

One of the best parts of visiting national parks is that many parks allow dogs. This is a huge advantage for pet owners. Just make sure to check the rules and regulations before your visit.

    The Southeast

Families in the south may enjoy a road trip to Everglades National Park in Florida. The park protects the southernmost twenty percent of the Everglades. Visitors can enjoy wildlife, swampland, and unique plants and animals. You can also schedule exciting excursions such as airboat rides or visits to alligator parks.

If you are driving to your destination, pack plenty of snacks, comfort items, and entertainment. These simple preparations help keep everyone happy during the trip.

    Here’s another travel tip!

Think beyond electronic devices for entertainment. Toddlers and younger kids enjoy busy boxes, crafts, and coloring books. One creative idea is bringing a metal baking sheet with a zipper bag full of magnets. Kids often play with them for hours.

Older children can also get bored with screens during long drives. Try bringing old-fashioned road maps for them to explore. Activity books like crossword puzzles or Sudoku are also great options.

    The Northwest

If you plan to visit the Northwest, Alaska is worth considering. Glacier Bay National Park sits at the top of my family’s bucket list. We hope to visit within the next couple of years, though driving only gets you part of the way.

If Alaska feels too far, Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State is another excellent choice. Families can enjoy mountain peaks, glaciers, and scenic hiking trails. Summer visits also offer beautiful wildflower meadows around the still-active volcano.

    The Southwest

The Southwest offers many incredible national parks thanks to its desert landscapes. The Grand Canyon National Park is the most famous, but there are many other great choices. Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Carlsbad Caverns National Park are all worth exploring.

The Grand Canyon can be viewed from several states, including Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. Carlsbad Caverns is located in southern New Mexico. Meanwhile, Bryce Canyon and Zion are both found in Utah.

    The Midwest

Two of the best-known national parks in the Midwest are Badlands National Park in South Dakota and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Parts of Yellowstone also stretch into Montana and Idaho.

If you have heard of Old Faithful, then you already know Yellowstone. Besides its famous geysers, the park offers fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, and many other outdoor activities.

National parks are true treasures, and it is easy to see why. A road trip to one or more parks can become an unforgettable family adventure. You will create lasting memories together, and that is something your kids will always cherish.
